Treatment of Disease Balanitis

When balanitis is caused by a yeast infection, the treatment is usually with an antifungal drug applied to the penis. Meanwhile, if bacterial infections are the cause, then treatment is usually with the provision of antibiotic cream.

Certain conditions of the skin, such as eczema and psoriasis also require a series of treatments. When balanitis occurs repeatedly, then circumcision (circumcision) needs to be done.

Cause of Disease Balanitis

Balanitis can occur due to less-paid hygiene factors around the penis area. As a result, this area is more susceptible to infection, which can be:

  • Fungal infections
  • Bacterial infections that multiply at the bottom of the foreskin of the penis (in the uncircumcised penis)
  • Sexually transmitted diseases, such as herpes simplex, chlamydia, or syphilis

Balanitis can also be caused due to skin disorders in the penis such as:

  • Eczema (also called atopic dermatitis), an allergic skin disorder characterized by the dry, red, and itchy skin.
  • Psoriasis, an autoimmune disorder in the skin characterized by very dry skin and thick skin crust.
  • Contact dermatitis, a skin inflammation caused by exposure to certain chemicals, such as condoms, soaps, and so on.

A person is more susceptible to balanitis if he has the condition:

  • Diabetes, if the blood sugar level is not controlled. High sugar levels in urine in diabetics can cause bacteria in the penis to multiply quickly and cause infection.
  • Phimosis, the condition of the foreskin of the penis is too tight and cause the foreskin penis cannot be pulled back.
  • Uncircumcised men who do not clean the dirt (smegma) under the foreskin of his penis.

Prevention of Disease Balanitis

To prevent infection of the penis, the head of the penis and foreskin should always be cleaned and kept in a dry condition. Consider also some of the following things that need to be done:

  • When cleaning the penis, foreskin penis should be pulled so that the head of the penis can be cleaned properly
  • Clean with warm water. Use a mild soap.
  • After cleansing, dry the head of the penis with a towel or tissue.
